Sizes of the finished buttons are given in English lignes, which are normally indicated by two lines (").
1 English ligne is equal to 0.635 mm, 1 mm to 1.575 English lignes. On this basis, the following conversions can be made:

16" = 10 mm 54" = 34 mm
24" = 15 mm 60" = 38 mm
32" = 20 mm 70" = 44 mm
36" = 23 mm 80" = 50 mm
40" = 25 mm 90" = 57 mm
48" = 30 mm

The most common button sizes are 18", 20", 24", 28" 30", 32", 36", 40", 44", 48", 54", 60", 70".

All buttons that are not round are measured across their longest diagonal. Fastenings are measured in cm according to their base height.
